Gigabit Internet
We’ve had gigabit Internet access at our home for over a year now. It’s a fiber connection, so the upload and download rates are symmetrical.
Running various speed tests is always fun - just for the gratification of seeing how much throughput is available. Practically, gigabit performance hasn’t really hit me as useful yet. Today, that changed. A friend was kind enough to gift me a copy of Path of Exile 2. It’s an 87 Gig (!!!) download. That’s a staggering download size. I fired up Steam and started the download, expecting it to take a while.
Clicking the “install” button should have triggered Samuel L. Jackson’s famous line from Jurassic Park.
I wasn’t prepared to watch the SSD usage spike as the bits started flowing through the glass tubes connecting us to the rest of the world.
It’s absolutely staggering to consider the technological advances the Internet has seen over the last 25 years.
Looking forward to where the next 25 years takes us.
