Make a Demo
Last weekend I recorded a new user tutorial video for our first Pin Sheet Pro customer. The video covered all major areas of functionality throughout the product.
I had to stop coding and go fix/change functionality 5 times while recording.
Be An End User
It’s common to fall into usage patterns as the developer. Unconsciously, you navigate around edge cases and ignore rough user experiences. Confused new users don’t stay users for long.
Show off functionality you’ve coded by recording a demo video.
Assume that if viewers don’t grok the feature or product from your video - they’ll quit using it.
Be thorough in your exploration and explanation.
- If something feels difficult to use while recording - fix it.
- If something isn’t intuitive to use while recording - fix it.
- If something doesn’t look right while recording - fix it.
Don’t make a ticket to fix it.
Fix it. Now.
Then go back and continue making the demo.
After watching the final cut of your recording, are you proud of what you’ve made?
It’s OK to show off your work. Make something that you’re proud of.
Undoubtedly, your users will appreciate the extra effort.
